About
I’ve been writing and recording music for about eighteen years, but in 2001 I took on the identity of D-O-E and decided to get serious about music, to pursue my passion as a career. Since then, I’ve accomplished more than a lot of underground/independent artists ever will in their entire lifetime. Including all of my side projects, I’ve released 21 self-produced full-length CDs in addition to demos and EPs which I’ve lost count of. I’ve worked with artists in various spots of the country, from New York to California, and I’ve played live shows in many different cities along the way. I learned a lot in my journeys about the music business and about life, I made a lot of music that I’m proud of and a lot of fans and friends in nearly every corner of the nation.

My music. I am influenced by so many different genres that I had to make up a new name for my style. I call it sykophunk, which breaks down simply: it’s crazy but it will make you move. Though I perform most of my lyrics in a rap style, the sound and attitude of my tracks reflect equal elements of hip hop, rock/metal, gothic, electronica – I’ll even throw in some polka if it helps push the message or mood of a particular song. I like to promote a sense of unity, a social and spiritual connection between people. At one of my shows you can see thugs, metalheads, goth kids, bikers and poets all moving together, all appreciating my words and music. It’s a beautiful thing.

A lot of artists say “music is my life,” it’s sort of a cliché. But I think my level of dedication is obvious in my songs and track record. Music is my passion, my therapy, my bread and butter. It’s a compulsion that I cannot control, nor would I ever want to. In 2008, I put together four CDs, did a number of guest appearances and collaborations, did a small tour, and scored a spot on a movie soundtrack. Currently I am working on more collaborations and three new albums plus a book! It never stops. I’m probably one of the hardest working underground musicians in existence. No matter how little it pays at times, no matter what life throws at me – the saga of sykophunk carries on. It’s just what I do. I wouldn’t want to do anything else.
